Reiki treatments can be used as part of a treatment plan to relieve depression. There are some studies that demonstrate the effects of reiki on older adults experiencing depression, anxiety or
pain. For example, in a study from 2010
reported an improvement in participants' mood, physical symptoms and well-being. Feelings of increased curiosity, relaxation and improved levels of self-care were also reported.
2. Relieves fatigue, anxiety and pain.
According to a review of randomized trials, reiki can help reduce anxiety and pain. Reiki can also help reduce fatigue.
In 2015, a study was conducted in which researchers examined the effects of reiki on women after caesarean section. What they found was that reiki remarkably reduced pain, anxiety and respiratory rate in women 1-2 days after undergoing a C-section. The number of painkillers and the need for these agents were also reduced.
Another study conducted in 2015 showed that people treated for cancer who received remote reiki in addition to traditional medical care had lower levels of fatigue, pain and anxiety. These levels were remarkably lower than the group that received only traditional medical care. Those who participated had 30 minute sessions of distance reiki for five days.
Furthermore, another study done in 2018 compared the use of reiki with physical therapy to relieve back pain in people with herniated discs. Both treatments were found to be equally effective in relieving back pain, however, reiki was more cost-effective and in some cases resulted in faster treatment.
3. Raises mood
Reiki can help improve your mood by relieving anxiety and depression. According to results from a 2017 study, people who had reiki experienced greater mood benefits compared to people who didn't have reiki. The study participants who had six 30-minute sessions over a period of two to eight weeks showed improvements in their mood.
4. Improves the quality of life
It has been shown in a study done in 2016 that the positive benefits of reiki can improve your general well-being. In the study, the researchers found that reiki contributes to improving the quality of life for women with cancer. Women who had reiki showed improvements in their sleep patterns, self-confidence and depression. They noted a sense of calm, inner calm and relaxation.
5. May improve certain symptoms and conditions
Reiki can also be used to treat: tension, headaches, nausea and insomnia. The relaxation response that occurs with a Reiki treatment can benefit these symptoms.
